usDART© trains animal disaster responders for local, county and state animal response teams (DART, CART, SART). Our instructors and consultants have many years of experience responding to animal related disasters. Our proprietary training is based on best practices and builds on the work done over the last three decades by people like Terri Crisp.
DART stands for Disaster Animal Response Team. This is a generic term for (usually private) initiatives on a local level. If animal disaster response is supported by a county the name CART (County Animal Response Team) is often used. A state animal response team would use the acronym SART.
usDART© works within the parameters set by FEMA, we apply the ICS, our graduates have as a minimum IS 100, IS 200 and IS 700. Most have a lot more formal training. We are constantly updating our knowledge through continuing education. When it comes to animal sheltering usDART© and many of its graduates are subject matter experts.
usDART© works within the system. Our animal response teams are usually overseen by a local, county or state agency. Our graduates are trained to follow the chain of command.
usDART© works with other response organizations, such as the American Red Cross, to better serve the needs of animals and their owners. Both on the county level and locally usDART© builds alliances with community-based groups to help our communities become disaster resilient.
usDART© is the training institute for Animal Response Teams. Over the past 5 years usDART has created the curriculum we teach future DART Responders. We have set this training institute up as a separate group from Contra Costa DART and CART to allow it to work with community based organizations in the greater San Francisco Bay Area (and beyond) that may be interested in starting their own version of DART. (See Custom Training)
The key to successful disaster response are the citizen volunteers who will make themselves available during and after a disaster. usDART© trained animal disaster responders will gladly work with convergent volunteers and train and mentor them to make sure that the animals (and their owners) get the best possible support following a disaster. Together, we shelter the whole family...
