MCART was activated in September. It's part of a state-wide network of animal emergency response teams. They respond to fires, accidents, and natural disasters. There are 40 volunteer responders, and the team is equipped with two trailers full of supplies to deal with any animal emergency.
Though MCART is new to Mercer County, it's not a new concept. The first animal emergency response teams formed in response to Hurricane Floyd.
The team is trained to deal with companion animals and livestock.
