JEARS is a coalition of three well-established, no-kill animal welfare groups in Japan that came together the day after the March 11th earthquake to rescue and support animals in jeopardy.  In addition to our current rescue efforts, we also see an exceptional opportunity to develop the plan of readiness for future disasters, and to influence institutional and social changes to further improve the lives of pets and other animals on an everyday basis. "Bringing pet food to people coping with life in the effected areas has been an important and rewarding part of our work here. Yesterday one of our teams walked through an area in Iwate that had suffered catastrophic damage from the tsunami, and they approached people walking dogs, to see if they had enough pet food on hand.

Japan : 120 Dogs Saved By One Store Owner!

Many shelters do not allow the survivors of the Japanese Earthquakes and Tsunami to bring their pets with them into the emergency shelters. With no change in the situation on the horizon shelters are now kicking pets out due to complaints from others who are living in the shelter. The news is not all bad: read how one store owner and his staff rescue hundreds of animals!

Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support, Kinship Circle and Last Chance for Animals, rescue a dog found on the side of the road severely emaciated and limping badly. He was taken to Animal Friends Niigata No-Kill shelter where he will receive medical care and the love he deserves until he finds a good home. Read The Whole Story!
